Communication
As I talk to residents in Georgian Bay Township, universally I hear: “I emailed a number of times but no one ever replies” when asked about issues they’ve had or “I didn’t know that, when is that happening?” when talking about events (like the municipal election) taking place this summer.
While the Township is adopting a new Communications and Brand Strategy, more culture changes within the office need to take place for the new strategy to be successful. The Township is already producing monthly newsletters and frequent social media posts, but it’s unclear if they are connecting with an audience, how successful is being measured, and if they engaging with more or fewer people over time.
When the Township implements the new communication strategy, they need to focus on broadening their target audience, engaging the audience, and measuring their performance in dealing with emails and other service requests.
As Ward 1 Councillor, I will publish a subscription monthly newsletter for residents with a summary of issues affect the Ward and Township. I will also encourage other councillors to do the same.
I would like to know as part of the communication strategies, when will the expansion of better broadband connection to the internet, right now the only options for internet in MacTier is either Bell Canada, other companies that use bell phone lines. With more and more people working from home, we can not get cable internet for speeds faster than 50 Mbps. We don’t even have an option for cable TV in MacTier, if we want TV, it is bell satellite or Shaw Direct. We are on the list for an upgrade from Cogeco, by 2026. We need higher speeds now, not when someone wants to upgrade MacTier at their best guess when it will happen. This needs to be addressed
How do I comment on your recent post about cottage rentals and the Township taxing us on it. I see you have removed your post about it….curious. Maybe I’ll start with this…..
The township is once again straying from their lane and and imposing rules and control on landowners and tax payers that they have no right in doing. I have much more to say on this so please let me know where I can sent comments…..be prepared to hear back from a ton of your constituents…….you say you want to “get this right” you should scrap this proposal immediately.
You are suggesting that this is a result of Covid and the rush of people to monetize their properties. That is a complete farse. You see that there is a huge demand and quite frankly need for people to “escape” and get away with their family’s and friends and you want a slice of the pie.
The council meeting is in Monday to discuss this proposal. Members of the public are welcome to attend and provide feedback during the Open Forum portion of the meeting.
The Facebook post was removed because comments descended to insulting other commenters.
